Hurricane Katrina passed Southeast of New Orleans in 2005 with frequent intense gusts and tidal surge. The failure of the levee system caused extensive flooding in New Orleans and surrounding Parishes and resulted in extensive water damage to nearly 80% of all structures in Orleans Parish. Since then, rebuilding has been an ongoing recovery process. In later 2005, Silas Caldeira, Founder of Sand’N Soil™ and father of two children, moved from Florida to start a new business in Southeast Louisiana. He bought his first dump truck and a skid steer and started a Demolition and Hauling Company.
